Program Description

Stearns County Human Services licenses approximately 190 adult foster care providers. Providers serve adults with physical limitations, developmental delays, mental illness, and the elderly.

Stearns County adult foster care providers serve approximately 530 clients. The level of care each client requires varies greatly. While some clients only require assistance with budgeting or transportation, others require assistance with daily routines, bathing, or taking their prescribed medications.

Some foster care homes are run only by the person who owns the home (family foster care), while others are staffed by shift staff (corporate home). The amount of payment that a foster care provider receives to care for client varies depending on the amount of care a client needs. The base rate starts out at $846 per month (2009 rate); however, most clients average $950 - $1350 per month for their cost of care.

Becoming a Provider
