Child Foster Care
Becoming A Provider
Licensing Laws
Need More info?
We currently have approximately 50 providers licensed by Stearns County Human Services. Our providers care for children who have been abused, neglected, abandoned, or whose parent is unable to take care of their children for some reason.
Children can be in care for as short as a day's time, or up to a year or more, depending on the circumstances. Family foster homes sometimes specialize in caring for children of certain age ranges or children with specific issues / problems.
Becoming a Provider
The first step in becoming a foster care provider is to register for an orientation session. Orientations are scheduled throughout the year, and held at the West Side Service Center. See more information, and register online for a session.
Licensing Laws
Foster care homes are licensed according to Minnesota laws. For more information, see Minnesota Statutes, Session Laws and Rules at www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/arule/9543/0040.html or retrieve the entire Human Services Licensing Act by visiting https://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/statutes/?id=245A
