It’s time to stop and smell the roses. Well no, roses are not blooming yet even though this a really early spring for them. I mean just look up from your outdoor maintenance chores--- getting the lawn in shape, preparing the veggie plot, trimming and pruning whatever---and enjoy what is already on offer in the beauty department if you only take the time .
Obscure beauty
I have a number of photos of spring flowers right now, but we all SEE those. Here are a few pictures that might not grab your attention right away, but are waiting for a close look.

Variegated Masterwort

Glossy Leaves of European Ginger

Hosta ‘Spilt Milk’
I love the contrast of various leaves. Garden designers call this ‘the foliage effect.’ Lah-dee-dah!

Coral Bells and Hosta
Lots of color, no flowers. Hmmm, maybe I should also get weeding here!

Tree peony is colorful even in bud!

Hiding under the Hosta leaves
There are hidden gems and the potential of buds to promise beauty to come. Sure I will also post pictures of pretty flowers, but sometimes it is good to look for the less obvious .
It should be a beautiful weekend wherever you are in Minnesota this weekend. Happy Mother’s Day! Good Luck Fishing! And send me some pix of your hidden beauties to share!
