Arsenic and Old Lace is an American Theatre legend and Pioneer Place is so excited to conclude its 2011-2012 with this masterpiece, directed by Zach Curtis.
This American classic comedy tells the story of two elderly women, the Brewster sisters, who have convinced themselves that it is a perfectly moral thing to kill the less fortunate. Everything goes well until their beloved nephew discovers their secret (on the same day he gets engaged, no less). Things are only complicated by the appearance of their other nephew, the villainous Jonathan, and his sidekick Dr. Einstein. The play also features hilarious characters, such as the sisters' insane nephew, who thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt; Elaine, their nephew's fiancée; Elaine's father; the superintendent of a sanitarium; and a number of police officers.
