Off-Highway Vehicle Grant Information (ATV)
The Snowmobile Patrol is responsible to patrol the 840 miles of groomed Grant-in-Aid trails and the Lake Wobegon Trail. The Snowmobile Patrol works with local Conservation officers to enforce state laws and local ordinances.
Snowmobile Patrol gives numerous safety talks to clubs and organizations along with assisting in the teaching of the snowmobile safety classes offered by the Department of Natural Resources volunteers. The number one priority of the Stearns County Sheriff's Department Snowmobile Patrol is safety for everyone. Remember, you make snowmobiling safe.
The Stearns County Sheriff's Department Snowmobile Patrol also fulfills the statutory duties of the Office of the Sheriff associated with the use of frozen waters within the boundaries of the County. Snowmobile enforcement is funded by a grant from the Department of Natural Resources to aid in the snowmobile enforcement activities. Snowmobile Patrol provides public safety to the users of the trails and frozen waterways: to investigate incidents, provide snowmobile safety education talks and classes to the citizens of Stearns County and to maximize the efficient use of the available resources in providing these resources.
The Sheriff's Department also has a Park and Bike patrol. Sheriff personnel patrol the County parks using both ATVs and bicycles. This service is provided to keep all users of the county parks and trails safe. Sheriff patrols enforce county ordinances and state laws that govern the use of the park and trails. As always, the Sheriff's Department is out there to provide a safe and pleasurable experience when using the parks and trails.
