The Application Process
On your application, be sure to thoroughly list all training and experience you possess. Failure to do so may adversely affect your final score.
If you need to make changes to your online application, you may resubmit a new application after a 24-hour waiting period. The most recently received application submitted prior to the deadline will be considered, and previous submissions for that particular recruitment will be inactivated.
Veteran's Preference
Stearns County awards preference points to qualified veterans. Points are awarded subject to the provisions of Minnesota Statutes 43A.11. Applicants must supply a copy of their DD214, which must show years of service and type of discharge. Disabled veterans must also supply form FL 21-802, or an equivalent letter from a service retirement board.
This documentation must be received by the close date of the posting in order to be considered. You may email this documentation to Human Resources, fax it to 320-656-6393 or mail it to Stearns County Human Resources, 705 Courthouse Square, Room 122, St. Cloud MN 56303.
Application Deadline
All application materials (including resumes and Veterans Preference documentation) must be received by the Human Resources Department by 4:30 p.m. on the posted close date. Late application materials will not be considered. The Human Resources Department is not responsible for failure of other agencies, Internet service providers or postal services to forward applications by the deadline.
The Hiring Process
Each job posting contains information on the duties of the position, minimum job qualifications, and the application and scoring process. Top candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and the specific needs of the vacancy are referred to the hiring supervisor for consideration.
Scoring of applications for candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will consist of ratings of the education and experience as presented in the application submitted. Applications are scored on a 100 point scale.
Veteran's preference points are included in the score if:
- the applicant has completed the veteran's preference sections of the employment application,
- the applicant receives a passing score,
- the supporting documentation is provided and
- the claim for preference is approved.
Internal Job Opportunities
These opportunities are ONLY open to current Stearns County Government employees (except to those with temporary status).
See a list of current Internal Only Job Opportunities.
Eligible candidate applications for lateral transfers and voluntary demotions are forwarded to the hiring manager for consideration.
