Valuation and Classification

The Valuation and Classification portion of the property tax statement provides information for Payable 2008 and 2009 taxes.  Payable 2008 values and classifications are shown for comparison purposes.


Property Tax Refund

Line 1 - Use this amount to determine eligibility for a property tax refund. This represents the tax amount to use when filing for a Property Tax Refund. For farms it only includes the tax for the house, garage and 1 acre and for residences it is limited to 10 acres.  If the white box is checked that indicates delinquent tax is owed and you are not eligible for a property tax refund.

Line 2  - Use this amount for the Special Property Tax Refund on schedule 1 of form M1PR. This amount represents the qualifying tax amount for homestead residential property from the previous year. It is used when filing for the M1PR special refund on properties that have experienced a large increase in taxes from one year to the next.

Your Property Tax and How it is Reduced by The State

Line 3 - This is the total of your property tax before reduction of state paid aids and credits:

state paid aids shown on line 4
residential homestead and ag credits shown on line 5A
other credits shown on line 5B.
Line 4 - This line is the credits paid by the State of Minnesota to reduce your property tax which include:

Market value homestead and agricultural credits
Other credits such as disaster credit, power line credit, ag preserve, conservation credit enterprise zone credit
Line 5 - This is the amount of net tax payable, after credits have been applied, includes:

tax capacity based tax
market value based tax

Property Tax by Jurisdiction

Line 6 - This is the amount of County tax you owe.

This amount will include Regional Rail Authority tax if applicable.
Line 7  - This is the amount of City tax you owe.

This lists the portion of the tax certified by the city or township to be collected as property tax.
Line 8 - This is the of State General tax.

This would list any State General Tax levied on Commercial, Industrial or Seasonal property.
Line 9 - This is the amount of School District tax.

This lists the portion of the taxes to be collected for the school district.
9A shows the amount approved by voters at a general election
9B lists the amount raised by other school levies
Line 10  - This amount shows the share of tax for the Special Taxing District, this could include Watershed Districts, Housing Redevelopment Authority, etc.

Line 11 - This is the amount of Non-school voter approved referenda levies. This is the total of the market value based referendum taxes for all taxing districts except school districts.

Line 12 - This is the amount of your total property tax before special assessments. This line should equal the total of lines 6 - 11.


Special Assessments on Your Property

Line 13 - This is the amount of special assessments on your property, this is broken down by each assessment.  The total dollar includes both principal and interest for each line item.
