Mississippi River County Park Ski trails at Mississippi park

Mississippi River County Park is made up of 209 acres and contains 1.3 miles of frontage on the Mississippi River. The site was acquired in 1973.

The park features:                                                                                        Boat Landing

  •  1.1 miles of roadway
  •  An open-air picnic shelter
  •  Two open play and picnic areas
  •  2.5 miles of year-round trails and 1 mile of winter only trails  
  •  A disc golf course
  •  Boat launch
  •  Prairie restoration site.

One-third of the park is forested.  A long-range goal
is to re-establish native plant communities throughout the park.

Cross Country Skiing: 

Cross Country Skiing on groomed ski trails is offered in Quarry Park, Warner Lake Park, Mississippi River County Park, or Kraemer Lake/Wildwood Park.   Trails are groomed provided there is enough snow and the temperatures are favorable.  Please check the Winter Ski Trails page for the conditions of the trails as well as the dates they are groomed. 

 

Skiing Fun FactsCross country skier at Mississippi Park

  • There are approximately 4.5 miles of ski trails at Mississippi Park.
  • The terrain is excellent for beginners
  • There is some terrain intermediate skiers will enjoy.
  • Most of the trails are wooded and much of it traverses along the banks of the Mississippi.
  • This is an excellent training loop. There is an outhouse on the northern loop.
  • The park entrance road is closed in winter but a winter parking lot is just north of the entrance road.
  • There is a walking trail approximately one mile long for walkers to use during ski season. 
  • No parking permit or ski pass is required.
  • There is no warming house or lighted trail.

Directions

The park is 6 miles north of Sartell on CSAH 1.

Hours

Mississippi River County Park is open year round and is open 6:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.

Parking

Free parking is available in the parking lot inside the park.  The "Winter" parking lot is now open.

  • Open on all sides
  • Seats 80-100 people comfortably
  • Large grill near shelter
  • Water pump near shelter 
  • Volleyball net posts (you provide your own net and volleyball) 
  • Horseshoe pits (you provide your own horseshoes)
  • No electricity available

Fees

  • $50.00/day when Caretaker is on duty.
  • $45.00/day when no Caretaker is on duty. (busy season)
  • $40.00/day during off season.  (October-April)

Camping

Mississippi River County Park offers group camping for bona fide youth groups and educational groups (e.g. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Church youth groups, 4-H Clubs, etc.). Advance notice is required, please contact the Parks Office at 320-255-6172  or parkinfo@co.stearns.mn.us for more information.

Disc Golf CoursePicnic Facilities

Mississippi River County Park has ten picnic areas, with tables and grills available for picnicking throughout the park.

Disk Golf

There is a 12-hole Disc Golf course located near the large shelter.  This course is maintained during the summer for disk golfers to enjoy.
