Descriptive Narrative:
The dominant rock type in Quarry One, as in most quarries, is red granite. However, the contact between red and gray granite is located just west of the southwest quarry wall. A basalt dike is found along the south wall and there are numerous associated shear zones or "mini-faults". Glacial polish is moderately well developed on adjacent outcrops, but the majority of the quarry wall consists of glacial overburden. Small natural outcrops are situated about 25 feet north of the north wall.
This is the second largest quarry in the park and has a maximum depth of 65 feet. Vegetation grows to the water edge at the east end of the quarry. Graffiti on the spoils pile at the west side of the quarry demonstrates that this quarry has had a lot of recreational activity in the past.
